  • Introduction

This special issue aims at exploring the role of international relations in business practices. At present, State agents are chartered with defining the framework for the operation of businesses. International cooperation treaties, for example, allow businesses access to new markets and more favorable production conditions. However, the consequences of increased international capital mobility on local societies have been minimally studied up to now. Added to the issue of international capital mobility are the actions of interference by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on States as well as businesses, leading to situations where NGOs sometimes constitute an unelected and illegitimate government more powerful than the formal State agent. The consequences of this interference have not yet been fully studied, especially in what concerns their harmful effects on local populations. Therefore, we propose this special issue to address two key areas affecting businesses in the international scenario. First, papers concerned with the effects of treaties between State agents on business practices would be of interest to the journal. Second, papers concerned with the effects of NGOs on local business practices would also be under the purview of this special issue.
    Aims and Scope:
    1. International treaties
    2. Business practices
    3. Political activism
    4. NGOs
    5. Cultural diversity
    6. Social framework
